This project is defined by its distinctive roof form that utilised the symbolic connection of the petal’s shape through the metaphoric process. The shape gave an identity to the development and became a guide for the design. Besides symbolism, the roof also functions as a shade for sky-level activities.
One of the challenging aspects of this project was accommodating the client’s requirement a mixed development that includes commercial, residential, recreational and car park facilities within the site. The spaces were created architecturally to accommodate different types of activities that are required to achieve an urban lifestyle. The frontage of the development was intentionally set-in from the main street to create an open breathing space between the building and the Old Klang Road/elevated NPE Highway, which also helps to enhance a welcoming transition experience upon approaching or entering the premises.
Pockets of relaxation and communal spaces were created by carving out the mass to enrich the environment for users, as well as extending the floor plates strategically at different levels. These spaces are paramount and expressed in terms of elevation, while reducing the mass and finding the balance between the use of solid and void. Rooftop facilities serve as communal spaces and offer panoramic views of the city skyline and greenery of Gasing Hill, which welcomes nature into the building.
The project was designed with Green building features that adhere to the Green Building Index’s (GBI) accreditation guidelines not only for the expression of the development features, but also the construction methods. For example, the adoption of the aluminium system formwork has reduced construction waste. Local construction materials were selected to ensure timely delivery and sufficient supply.
