Constructed between 1936 and 1941, Fort Canning Park is now a venue for events and entertainment—ranging from concerts, theatre productions and festivals to weddings, parties and gatherings. The unique selling point of this site is made up by the site’s history, lush greenery and heritage values. The project aims to reuse the bunker on the site as a gallery to commemorate the past, revisiting a shared memory.
STORY BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE
The idea was inspired by a surgeon’s journal buried in a camp in the area during World War I. In one of the entries, it was told that Fort Canning Park served as the headquarters of the Far East Command Centre and the British Army Barracks. The bomb-proof underground bunker was located between the command centre and the barracks, 30 feet beneath the hill.
