The assignment brief entailed the design of a shared space that introduces multiple fine-dining areas alongside the retail space of a skincare brand catering to high-end clientele—a reimagination inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi (the appreciation of beauty within imperfection).
INTEGRATING ORGANIC SHAPES AND NATURAL MATERIALS
Organic shapes are evident in the overall layout as well as furnishings. Circular couches and tables are largely adopted in the restaurant to meet the minimum seating capacity while its arrangement retains the existing kitchen and emergency exit as required. Open shelving of similar curved forms is built into the retail area to feature products.
The dining areas are zoned by partitions for privacy, complemented by the use of black upholstery. The decorative hanging lights add a touch of opulence. A focal point is designed for the main dining space to keep the dishes within easy reach—a departure from conventional fine-dining setting—to enhance both visual and olfactory interests for guests.
