STUDENT FEATURE

Rough Trade

Located at the contemporary art destination Gilman Barracks, Rough Trade is both a music shop and an exclusive club where vinyl collectors and community gather to share their common interests. It aims to create a shopping experience that goes beyond purchasing a music product. Complemented with a venue for gathering and music concerts, visitors will be able to shop while experiencing the music through activities and events.

Blending with the surrounding modern art galleries, the building will adopt an industrial style. A grunge slant will be added to the design to match the target market that comprises mostly young people. The overall impression will rely largely on the use of metals in different forms—from the raw forms of perforated and corrugated metal pieces to more processed materials such as metal textured laminates—coupled with matte black finish.
