The cafeteria is housed within a 30-year-old courtyard building, which has been redesigned to serve the kindergarten and elementary school students of the International School Bangkok (ISB) up to the fifth grade. It is open, without the use of partitions, to enable a wider scenery and more space while fostering closer relationships among kids, kitchen staff and parents waiting outside.
KIDS-FRIENDLY DESIGN
The design concept is simple, fun and sustainable based on a Scandinavian style to inspire children’s imagination. A neutral tone in beige is applied to the furniture and accessories. The curves on the ceiling represent the free flowing space and the wide curved window walls connect the indoors with the outdoors. In addition, the natural lighting helps brighten up the space during the daytime through the glass exterior.
Display windows are installed on the kitchen walls, which allow students to watch how the chefs work and how their food is prepared. The cafeteria provides 125 to 155 seats and is usually used by three classes at a time. Students are able to serve themselves at the low-lying serving counter and the tree-shaped salad bar.
