The objective of the proposal came about as a response to the increasing burden on general hospitals and healthcare workers following the COVID-19 pandemic, as issues of overcrowding and shortage of caregivers have increased the workload of nurses.
This project seeks to make use of in-between spaces to enhance rest areas for nurses and to make it easily accessible to maximise their break time.
LOOPED ‘PAUSE SPACES’
The design connects the existing areas of blocks 6 and 7 by utilising the unused spaces inside the blocks and integrating them with greenery, which creates looped ‘pause spaces’ with high accessibility across departments.
NATURAL MATERIALS
To counter a monotonous workplace, natural materials that can be locally sourced—bamboo and jute—are selected to apply to finishes such as jute net panelling and bamboo frame.
