The framework for a Transit-oriented Development (TOD) project, involving Malaysia’s Bukit Chagar RTS Station, a terminal station of the upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, and the Malaysian Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) complex, will be jointly outlined by MTR Corporation and Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (MRT Corp).
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties on 28 July 2023, the areas of collaboration cover technical design for integration of the rail infrastructure and complex; long-term planning of surrounding areas; exploration of the development’s scale; and formulation of marketing strategies; among other partnership models.
Working groups will be set up to facilitate the exchange of expertise that aimed at creating sustainable income for the railway project and rejuvenating Bukit Chagar.
Upon completion, the RTS will relieve traffic congestion and foster economic growth between Malaysia and Singapore. —Construction+ Online
