BCI Asia Awards Top 10 Singapore Architect 2021
One Pearl Bank will consist of two arc-shaped towers, conceived to become another national landmark to replace the previous Pearl Bank Apartments—the old horse-shoe shaped building that has been an icon of Singapore’s housing estates since the 1970s.
THE ARC SHAPE
The slender, curved façade will optimise views of the city. Residents will be able to look out of and through the towers because of the ample space the arcs will have created. Should solar energy systems be used, exposure to daylight will be optimised because the sun rays will mostly fall perpendicularly to the towers’ exterior walls. Wind could also flow in from different directions and provide even, constant ventilation. In terms of withstanding high winds, a curvy design such as this will have a stronger aerodynamic quality, which can reduce pressure load by avoiding air-planning.
THE SKY ALLOTMENTS
One Pearl Bank will feature balconies with sunken planters positioned within a double-skin system that allows for variation within the coherent gridded façade. The roof gardens will not only provide fresh air and a cityscape view, but also amenities such as an indoor and outdoor gym, a walking track and an alfresco dining area.
