Kuala Lumpur, 20 August 2021 – The Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, chaired a Special Session of the National Security Council (NSC) yesterday to discuss and consider the proposals by the NSC Special Technical Committee. The proposals aim to further expand social and economic sector activities, especially for Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NPP).
The Prime Minister believes that the consideration has taken into account the positive development of the vaccination rate among the adult population nationwide, which has exceeded 50 per cent—an achievement that is earlier than targeted (31 August 2021).
The government has agreed to allow more activities for individuals who have received complete vaccination and met certain criteria. They are allowed to dine in and enjoy sports, recreation and leisure activities (without physical contact and non-group) such as jogging, exercise, taichi, cycling, skateboarding, fishing, equestrian, archery and so on.
Restaurants are allowed to operate but are encouraged to provide more dining space outside the premises for better ventilation. Night market and Sunday market operations are also permitted provided that owners allow vaccinated individuals only.
This relaxation will come into effect today, 20 August 2021. If there is an infection in the premises that enjoy these facilities, the Ministry of health (MOH) will immediately take appropriate measures, including reassessing the risk and possibly order to close and issue compounds to parties identified as violating SOPs.
