Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme (HVUSSS) has been awarded the 2018 Dai Yu Science & Technology Medal of the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society for outstanding achievement in the areas of innovation and technology development.
The Dai Yu Water Science and Technology Awards has been organised annually since 2002. This is the first time a local drainage project has won this award.
Black & Veatch was the hydraulic designer of the HKD1 billion HVUSSS project, which was managed by the Drainage Services Department (DSD) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and in conjunction with the Hong Kong University of Science and technology.
HVUSSS uses a large underground tank to store the surge of stormwater runoff that reduces downstream flooding risks during severe rainfall events. — Construction+ Online
