International Construction Week 2018 (ICW 2018)

The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Malaysia, is once again bringing together the leaders and key players of the construction industry to the upcoming International Construction Week (ICW) 2018, which will be held from 26–30 March 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event will be officiated by Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, the Minister of Works.

ICW has grown to become a prestigious platform in Southeast Asia and is currently the largest construction trade conference in Malaysia, expected to bring together over 100 exhibitors and more than 10,000 attendees this year. With the theme of ‘Achieving Peak Productivity’, ICW 2018 seeks to raise awareness amongst industry players in the area of construction technology and innovation as part of CIDB’s aim to improve the overall productivity and competitiveness of the industry.

A key highlight of ICW 2018 is the International Construction Transformation Conference (ICTC), which will be held by CIDB for the very first time on 26 and 27 March. ICTC will bring together world-class experts and industry captains from Malaysia and around the region to weigh in on the impact of technology and innovation in terms of increasing construction industry productivity.

Confirmed keynote speakers for ICTC include Rajat Agarwal of McKinsey Capital Productivity Southeast Asia; Zhang Yue of BROAD Group China; and Richard Kuppusamy of Lendlease Asia. In addition, ICTC will also feature Konvensyen Usahanita Binaan (KUBINA2018), which highlights leading women professionals in the construction industry.

“ICW 2018 signifies CIDB’s long-standing commitment to make Malaysia’s construction industry a global leader particularly in the areas of productivity, quality and safety. To achieve this, it is imperative that we continue efforts to enhance the productivity levels of the construction industry by synergising a highly-skilled workforce with modern construction technologies that are available today. Through ICW 2018, we are confident that industry players will be exposed to many opportunities and tools to advance the skill-sets and productivity of their workforce,” said Puan Sr. Sariah Abdul Karib, Senior General Manager (Policy and Corporate Sector) of CIDB Malaysia.

ICW 2018 will feature exhibitions, seminars and talks on the use of modern construction technologies such as Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), new sustainable materials and energy sources, innovative design approaches as well as advances in digital technology, including the use of big data in construction.

Meanwhile, Ecobuild SEA 2018, the industry’s leading event for sustainability in construction, will once again be featured within ICW 2018. The event, which will take place from 27–29 March 2018 marks the fifth time that Ecobuild SEA is organised as the exhibition component of ICW.

“Together with Ecobuild SEA, ICW 2018 will showcase the latest sustainable processes, systems and materials in the construction industry. This is part of our efforts to transform Malaysia’s construction industry to be more green and sustainable as outlined within the second strategic thrust of the Construction Industry Transformation Programme 2016-2020 (CITP),” said Puan Sr. Sariah Abdul Karib.

The CITP forms an important part of the 11th Malaysia Plan and supports the overall National Transformation Agenda in making Malaysia an advanced and high-income nation by 2020. Under the CITP, four strategic thrusts: Quality, Safety and Professionalism; Environmental Sustainability; Productivity; and Internationalisation, with 21 initiatives have been identified across the four thrusts to address specific challenges within the construction industry.
