The project occupies a tight urban site on Jalan Imbi and was designed to accommodate an international branded serviced apartment complex. The concept was to create a distinctive architectural statement that would stand out amidst the vibrant skyline of downtown Kuala Lumpur and resonates with the operator’s brand image and positioning.
The main façade is composed of deep and angled architectural fins arranged at regular repeated intervals. These fins serve as shading devices, shielding the building interior from the solar heat. Laminated glass with specialised solar control coating strengthens the façade systems. This technology ensures that the glass reflects more than half of the heat energy directed onto the glazed surfaces without sacrificing aesthetics. On-site material delivery has been carefully planned and coordinated among the specialists to ensure that the site can accommodate the materials for immediate use.
Since the construction was taking place during the pandemic, safety precaution measures had to be taken, which significantly increased the budget. Working hours permittable on-site were limited and there was not much storage and laydown area. Maintaining communication within neighbouring buildings needed extra effort to ensure coordination and progress. Nevertheless, the project was delivered on time and without much waste on the workforce and materials.
