AkzoNobel—the leading global paint and coatings company and manufacturer of Dulux—announced the launch of its annual trend forecast, ColourFutures, depicting key colour trends for the year ahead and its prediction of the Colour of the Year at Wisma REHDA (Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Malaysia).
The Colour of the Year is Denim Drift (90BG 30/073), also known as Smoke Grey. This is a timeless and versatile grey-blue colour that takes on a different characteristic depending on how it will be used to capture the mood of the moment. Denim Drift fits into all interior design styles and is an ideal choice in reflecting AkzoNobel’s new perspective for 2017.
Heleen van Gent, Head of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetics Centre, said: “Denim Drift is a wonderfully diverse foundation for the 2017 colour palette, which tells the story of our ‘life in a new light’ trend through its vast range of tones and colours. With blue set to dominate the interior trend agenda for 2017, Denim Drift does a fantastic job by representing the times we live in.”
To complement Denim Drift, AkzoNobel developed a family colour palette that features a spectrum of blues and tones. The different proportions of darker and lighter blues can change the mood of a room or space. When Denim Drift is combined with a few of the lighter shades, it exudes a crisp and airy feel. However, it creates a more dramatic and moody feel when combined with a darker colour.
During the launch event, members of the media were given an experiential tour around four dedicated rooms to complement the Colour of the Year. Each room was designed to depict one of the four trends—New Romanticism, Shared Individualism, The Working Home and Considered Luxury—which were created for guests to explore and immerse themselves in an engaging and interactive manner.
