Bangkok, 29 July 2021 – The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) has entrusted two universities with conducting a study on logistics design in Chana district of Songkhla, which is the fourth model city, under the ‘Triangle of Stability, Prosperity and Sustainability’ project.

SBPAC Secretary-General Rear Admiral Somkiat Pholprayoon said that, in the Triangle of Stability, Prosperity, and Sustainability project, Chana will be developed into an advanced industrial city for the future, which will also help in the development of three districts in this province, namely Na Thawi, Thepha and Saba Yoi.

In so doing, more transport networks must be developed linking with other areas inside and outside of the country. The objective is to facilitate the travel of people and goods transportation.

The SBPAC Secretary-General said that the existing two main routes, Highway 43 and Highway 408, are not sufficient to accommodate the growth of the city in the future. More transport networks need to be developed to connect with the rail systems and other modes of transportation.

In this regard, SBPAC has worked with the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning and the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization in analysing traffic conditions in the target area to cope with changes in the southern border provinces development.

The two universities entrusted with conducting the study on logistics design are King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and Suranaree University of Technology.

Representatives from relevant agencies and the people who are stakeholders will be invited to attend a seminar via a Zoom meeting on 9 August 2021. They will be given a briefing and provided with an opportunity to express their views on the study project.

The Cabinet on 7 May 2019 approved the development of Chana district as the fourth model city in the deep South, after three other districts—Nong Chik in Pattani, Betong in Yala, and Su-ngai Kolok in Narathiwat—were approved on 4 October 2016.

The Chana model city is regarded by the private sector as a strategic point for southern border provinces development, especially in terms of logistics.
