Bangkok, 13 July 2021 – Transport Minister, Saksayam Chidchob, has announced to the public that the unused areas of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports will be utilised for temporary healthcare facilities to treat COVID-19 patients.

The current COVID-19 situation has resulted in an influx of patients so an arrangement of 7,000 beds was made to increase the capacity of the local hospital. The government has finalised the agreement with Airports of Thailand (AOT) to convert the areas that are currently not in operation into a makeshift hospital.

According to Minister Saksayam, the Suvarnabhumi Airport temporary facility will open for service in August and will be able to accommodate more than three times the number of patients at Bussarakham Hospital at Impact Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province.

Meanwhile, the warehouse of Don Mueang Airport will be converted into another makeshift hospital, which will contain approximately 2,000 beds for patients with mild symptoms.
