Rebel Rebel Wine Bar

The Rebel Rebel Wine Bar was designed to provide the community with a bar that is not intimidating and relaxed. As the client is already in the F&B business and a wine distributor, he wanted to provide a place where people could gather and enjoy good food and wine. The name of the bar also alludes to the non-traditional natural wines, which are the client’s focus—they are deemed non-typical wines that push boundaries and go against long-standing traditions and methods of winemaking.

The first design-related decision made was to do away with a typical bar installation. Instead, the interiors were designed to emulate a cave; after all, it is not uncommon for wine cellars to be in a cave-like underground space.

To achieve this objective, the wall was shaped using wire mesh before a layer of plaster and texture paint completed the effect. The walls and ceiling merge seamlessly—as they would in a cave–with separate shelves displaying each bottle for easy viewing. They are the main highlight on the walls, alongside selected photographs from the client’s personal collection, which add personality and warmth to the overall setting.
