Equatorial Plaza

The Equatorial Plaza (the former Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur) is a redevelopment of the 0.8 hectare site on which the original and iconic Hotel Equatorial once stood. Today it has become a high-rise, 53-storey tower, its highest point a staggering 230 metres above grade. It is situated in a prime location along Jalan Sultan Ismail, with the Petronas Twin Towers in KLCC just a short walk away. It was a challenging project headed by GDP Architects, an all-Malaysian project team creating a bold skyscraper that looks like two-building within a building with limited space.

The former Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur had earned international renown as a choice place of stay for visitors to Malaysia, and its fine-dining restaurants were among the best in the city. The property owners stressed premium quality in its redevelopment to uphold the “Equatorial” brand’s reputation. Its offer of a modern and sophisticated experience for hotel guests and office users was combined with aesthetic appeal. The hotel’s finishing included the use of large format tiles (600 mm x 1200 mm) which required installation with good workmanship and a high-performance adhesive. It is also the pride

Mapei product consists of high-performance adhesives and grouts with “EC 1” certifications to help meet GBI standards. Different solutions were used in different areas in order to achieve optimum result. The adhesives and grout used for installing the tiles and stone materials are KERAFLEX for installing porcelain tiles and marble floors in bathrooms, KERAFLEX MAXI S1 for installing large format tiles, KERASET + PLANICRETE SP1 for marble and granite floors and KERACOLOR SF as grouting for internal joints. The products used in tile installation of the hotel’s swimming pool are KERABOND T + ISOLASTIC 50 as adhesive for mosaic tiles, and KERACOLOR FF + FUGOLASTIC as grouting.
