Indonesia has been appointed to co-host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, which will be held from August to September 2023. To welcome the appointment, the Indonesia government has been building a new venue.
The Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) is a sports facility built on a site of 31,826 square metres, with a floor area of 21,304 square metres, with a capacity to accommodate more than 16,000 spectators. Located in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex, it will be the first indoor venue to host the most spectators that Indonesia has ever had.
The stadium construction used Building Information Modelling (BIM) and industry-based construction technology 4.0, and has adopted environmentally friendly principles while prioritising safety issues as its most important aspects. The budget was allocated from the State Budget through a Multi-Year Contract (MYC) scheme 2021-2023, with PT Adhi Karya, PT Nindya Karya and PT Penta (joint operation) appointed as builders.
Construction Plus Indonesia, together with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) as owner of the project, has initiated a knowledge-based informational and networking event in the form of conference and project tour called CONSTRUCTION+ FOCUS.
To be held on Tuesday, 27 June 2023, with the theme Sustainable Design, Construction & Safety for Indoor Stadium, the event will comprise a series of presentations and discussions, as well as a project tour at IMS GBK, Senayan, Jakarta. CONSTRUCTION+ FOCUS will bring together three stakeholder groups involved in the IMS GBK project: the government, architects and contractors. Thus, the panel discussion will include several important experts.
