Singapore, 26 April 2021 – The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) will take over the management of Chinatown Heritage Centre from its current operator Chinatown Heritage Centre Pte Ltd (CHCPL) with immediate effect.

Both parties have mutually agreed to end CHCPL’s tenancy contract to operate and manage the museum, which has been impacted by COVID-19 and prolonged restrictions on international travel. STB seeks the public’s understanding that the museum will remain closed until further notice.

Lim Shoo Ling, Director, Arts and Cultural Precincts, Singapore Tourism Board, said, “Over the past six years, CHCPL has worked closely with STB to tell the rich story of Chinatown’s evolution and inspire visitors to explore the precinct. Under their care, Chinatown Heritage Centre has grown to become one of Singapore’s top ranked museums. We will use this time to review the Centre’s operating model, and will announce future plans in due course.”

First opened in 2002, Chinatown Heritage Centre has been a key gateway for visitors to understand the Chinatown story, with its rich collection of personal stories and enriching programmes that provide an intimate and accurate portrayal of Chinatown, from its early days as a Chinese migrant settlement to today’s vibrant heritage precinct. Earlier, in September 2020, STB announced that the Chinatown Heritage Centre is closed until April 2021 to undergo renovation and enhancement works.
