No Sunrise No Sunset Pavilion

This sunset-viewing pavilion is a brainchild of a local artist and a Bangkok-based architect. The site is located at Ao Nang beach in Krabi Province—off the beaten track where tourists and locals can find a peaceful refuge from the busy resort town. The artist approached the project from a site-specific angle, combining what he believed to be the physicality of space and the spiritual feels that emerge from it.

In collaboration with the architect, he created a pavilion that takes shape as a mirror-cladded 50-square-metre rectangular box—rising up from a hidden cliff, overlooking the sea. The exterior mirror walls ‘renew and transform’ the box by reflecting the surroundings in a constant, never-ending shift of images with the movement of the sun and clouds. Inside, half of the floor plan is filled with water to connect the pavilion to the sea and act as an invisible wall to prevent visitors from coming too close to the edge.
