Legacy Yen Tu – MGallery is a hotel/resort located in Yen Tu mountain, 1,068 metres above sea level, near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay. The site is historically rich as it was the location of Lam Buddhism established by King Tran Nhan Tong. The design aims to reflect its heritage and spirituality values; hence involving the use of traditional building plans and materials, such as calligraphic wooden slabs and an outdoor patio living area.
EMULATING A MONASTERY
As the architecture of the hotel emulates a monastery, the use of modern-day equipment is minimised. The spa uses a traditional furnace to heat up water for bath tubs, pools and stream. The parking lot was reorganised to keep cars out of sight. Most of the materials are traditional and sourced locally, including wood, bronze and marble. Craftsmen from traditional craft villages were hired to restore the old decorations.
