Singapore, 2 August 2021 – Surbana Jurong member company Prostruct Consulting has been engaged to develop the infrastructure protection design for Jurong Region Line (JRL), Singapore’s seventh MRT comprising Jurong East, Gek Poh and Tawas stations.

The JRL will improve connectivity in the western part of Singapore by serving areas that currently do not have direct links to the rail network such as NTU, Jurong Industrial Estate, Jurong Innovation District, Pandan Reservoir and the future Tengah area.

The stations at Choa Chu Kang, Boon Lay and the Jurong area are expected to add more than 60,000 additional households within a 10-minute walk from a train station. As key residential areas such as Tengah new town develop over time, even more households will benefit from the JRL in future.

The Prostruct team is developing the Security Design Plan, including layered security measures, including hostile vehicle crash protection, and Protective Hardening Measures to keep the infrastructure functioning in the event of an incident involving explosions even when attacked by an Improvised Explosive Device. The Protective Hardening Measures would strengthen structural columns, beams and critical assets including walls and slabs.

This win comes on top of earlier contracts, awarded in 2020, for infrastructure protection design for the Tengah Integrated Depot, Jurong West and Jalan Bahar stations along the JRL.
