Kuala Lumpur, 17 June 2021 – To accelerate the vaccination of the front liners in the economic recovery, the Ministry of Works, through the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia today, offered COVID-19 vaccination to 40,000 workers in the construction sector.

The ministry made the proposal to the COVID-19 Immunization Special Task Force (CITF) on 14 June 2021 and it has now been approved. Through this programme, the private sector will have to provide and self-fund the certified medical officers and staff, as well as establish the vaccination centre, while the supply and delivery of vaccines will be provided free-of-charge by the government.

CIDB will coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the programmes. The cost incurred for the vaccination process—RM140 per person for two complete doses of vaccine injection—will be subsidised by RM50 by CIDB. This means that employers only have to pay RM90 for each vaccinated worker. CIDB also offers its premises to be used as vaccination centres.

Participation for this programme is voluntary so employers can choose to join this or to conduct their own vaccination programme through a direct coordination with CITF. The vaccination programmes coordinated by CIDB will be implemented in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur on 30 June 2021 and the entire state of Selangor on 14 July 2021.
