Target of 77 sewage treatment plants by 2040

Malaysia is blessed with many water supply sources from 150 rivers, however, global climate change and river pollution are resulting in a raw water shortage.

Hence, the Prime Minister called for commitment from all quarters to treat all kinds of sewage and industrial waste properly.

Speaking at the launch of the Pantai 2 Sewage Treatment Plant (S2STP) here today, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said, “The three main causes of river pollution identified include agricultural and manufacturing industrial waste, domestic waste and farming activities.”

In line with this, the government aims to build 77 treatment plants by 2040, under the National Sewerage Strategic Plan, with an allocation of RM52 billion. So far, a total of 46 treatment plants have been built nationwide. — Construction+ Online
