Kuala Lumpur, 21 June 2021 – Metal scaffolding fell at the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) Highway construction along the Sungai Buloh-Kota Damansara stretch on 19 June 2021 at around 7 p.m. The incident injured two Bangladeshi workers, who were then transported to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
The Crossing Project Damansara Shah Alam Sdn Bhd (PLDSASB) has been ordered to immediately stop any works that involve temporary structures. Malaysian Highway Board (LLM) and the consultant engineer, Zaidun Leeng Sdn Bhd (ZLSB), have been ordered to prepare a complete report within a week.
The Ministry of Works will also research reports from the Occupational Safety and Health Department (JKKP). What has been known thus far is that during the concrete pouring work, the construction area is completely closed as required by the SOP. The initial review of the Malaysian Highway Board (LLM) showed that the scaffolding design was in order and had been validated by the consulting engineer.
The works using the same engineering methods will cover 14 locations in the area, with four being completed. The incident happened in the fifth location. The remaining works for the 10 locations can only be continued after the audit report by the Independent Consulting Engineer (ICE) is issued. The concessionaire has also been instructed to provide appropriate assistance to the affected victims.
As a safety measure, the right lane on both sides of the NKVE Highway is completely closed.
