Malaysia’s Minister of Works attends high-level luncheon with key leaders of the construction industry

In conjunction with Futurebuild SEA 2020, UBM Informa markets and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia had jointly organised a high-level luncheon on 10 January 2020. The event was graced by the Minister of Works, YB Tuan Baru Bian and the Secretary-General, Ministry of Works, Dato’ Dr. Syed Omar Shariffdin Bin Syed Ikhsan.

Held at the Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, the luncheon was attended by key leaders of Malaysia’s construction industry, with the focus on modernising the construction industry through the adoption of technologies.

“The construction industry must prepare itself to be highly competitive and ever-ready to address any arising issues. Business leaders must acknowledge that it can no longer be ‘business as usual’ for the Malaysian construction sector if we want to grow to greater heights,” said YB Tuan Baru Bian.

The luncheon was an opportunity for participates to engage with the Minister on construction matters and share ideas that could elevate the industry to the next level.

“Greater technology adoption should no longer be seen as an option but an urgent need that must be taken into account by all industry players, with the intent to spearhead productivity and to lower costs in the long run.,” said the minister.

He added that the government has intensified its efforts to promote the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies and Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), among others, across the Malaysian construction industry.
