Kuala Lumpur, 18 November 2021 – To anticipate the upcoming Northeast Monsoon, the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia has launched the Disaster Operations Room or Bilik Gerakan Bencana (BiGBen).

The ceremony was officiated by YBhg Datuk Ir Haji Mohamad Zulkefly Bin Haji Sulaiman, Director General of Works. The ceremony was also attended by YBhg Dato’ Ir Haji Ahmad Redza bin Ghulam Rasool, Deputy Director-General of Works (Infra Sector); YBhg Dato’ Ir Hj Masri bin Baharuddin, Director of Corporate Policy and Management Branch (CDPK); YBrs Ir Mohamed Amin bin Kasim, Senior Director of Road Branch (CJ); YBrs Ir Ibrahim bin Esa, Director of Road Facilities Maintenance Branch (CSFJ); YBrs Ir Hj Abd Rahman bin Pandi, Director of the Slope Engineering Branch (CKC); Heads of the Road Facilities Maintenance Branch (CSFJ) and the Disaster Operations Room Secretariat (BiGBen).

The opening of BiGBen aims to provide a one-stop centre of management and disaster information such as floods, slopes, landslides or damaged/collapsed bridges that involve roads under the supervision of the JKR. The public can also find out information on road closures and alternative road information that can be passed during a disaster on the JKR eBencana Portal.

BiGBen is expected to be the main source of reference for all government agencies, non-governmental organisations and also all communities on disaster information. During the event, the winning prototype of the JKR Malaysia 2021 Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) Convention was launched. It is called Easy Info Flood Level (EIFL), which will facilitate the measurement of floodwater level rise in flood-prone areas.
