The inaugural Royal Selangor Design Week took place on 25 October 2016 at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, with a line-up of award-winning designers and speakers who gave a series of round-table talks and presentations on the crucial elements that shape contemporary design.
Executive Director of Royal Selangor International, Yong Yoon Li said that it was great to connect with people who shared Royal Selangor’s passion for design and innovation. The response from the inaugural design week was encouraging and they could not have done it without the support of local and international speakers.
The conference started with an opening keynote address by Freeman Lau, Founder of KL&K Creative Strategics, Hong Kong. The other speakers included Jarrod Lim, Founder of Jarrod Lim Design, Singapore; Ian Macready and Voon Wong, Directors of Viewport Studio, United Kingdom; Jamy Yang, Founder of YANG DESIGN and YANG HOUSE, China; Nathan Yong, Founder of Nathan Yong Design, Singapore; and Xu Xiaoyong, an artist and sculptor from China.
The event ended with a closing keynote delivered by Lauren Sizeland, Head of Business Development and Licensing for Victoria and Albert Museum, United Kingdom, who shared how the museum collaborates with trend forecasters to identify the latest global design themes.
