Zero-Carbon-Ready Building Certification Scheme Launched towards a Resilient City

The Zero-Carbon-Ready Building Certification Scheme, part of the Hong Kong Green Building Council’s (HKGBC) Climate Change Framework For Built Environment, aims to facilitate owners in benchmarking energy performance, setting carbon neutrality targets and justifying projects for green financing. This is done through the provision of the following classification: Energy Performance Certificate, Target Setting Certificate and Progress Certificate.

In conjunction with its launch on 26 September 2023—a hybrid event with some 800 attendees—the certificates were awarded to 29 projects from seven establishments that had participated in the pilot scheme. The recipients include Chinachem Group; Henderson Land Development Company Limited; Hongkong Land (Property Management) Limited; Hysan Development Company Limited; Nan Fung Group; Sino Land Company Limited; and Swire Properties Limited.

The initiative has been included in the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s (HKMA) discussion paper on Prototype of a Green Classification Framework for Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the HKGBC Climate Change Framework For Built Environment has registered over 7,000 downloads since its introduction back in June.
