Transport Department’s exhibition to enhance public’s mobility

From 7 December until February 2020, the Transport Department (TD) is carrying out the Commute with “Ease” Roving Exhibition to introduce the public about its forthcoming initiatives to facilitate public’s mobility.

Apart from display panels, physical models such as the new generation of parking meters will also be on display at some venues. The new parking meter will be equipped with new functions, including the support of multiple payment means, and remote payments made through mobile applications. The new meter will also provide real-time parking vacancy information so as to help reduce traffic generated by vehicles circulating in search of vacant parking spaces.

In addition, to address the shortage of car parking spaces in Hong Kong, the TD is exploring the use of an Automated Parking System (APS) in government car parks to increase the provision of car parking spaces. Two pilot projects will be implemented in Tsuen Wan and Sham Shui Po districts.

“We hope that through the exhibition, members of the public can have a better understanding of how the TD leverages innovation and technology to improve traffic planning and management, as well as the efficiency and quality of the transportation system, so as to bring greater convenience and comfort to commuters,” a TD spokesman said. — Construction+ Online
