STUDENT FEATURE

The Shoreline Primary School and Kindergarten in Siu Sai Wan

Sectional view of the school

This project aims to encourage students’ mobility through a revamp of an existing secondary school in Siu Sai Wan, Hong Kong, turning it into a new primary school and kindergarten.

A new structure for creative learning and playing will be designed and built in front of the existing building. As Siu Sai Wan was previously a cove, the wavy patterns of the façade, imitating a shoreline, seek to evoke a sense of nostalgia in the older generation while representing the history of the area to the young.

Connection between the existing and new blocks

The new design offers a playful circulation plan with petal climbers, a slope and slide as well as a climbing wall to enhance movement and to delight the children’s senses. Linking the two building structures through outdoor passages also encourages students to move between floors and classrooms.
