Strengthening Joint Approaches to Flood Control and Drainage Management

The Drainage Services Department will complete its ongoing study of strategic planning for flood management against sea-level rise and extreme rainfall this year, as outlined in the 2023 Policy Address. This is in line with efforts to take forward the HKD8 billion drainage improvement projects to cover areas hit by severe floods in the past, such as Wong Tai Sin and Hong Kong Island East.

To this end, the department has strengthened the cooperation in addressing drainage issues with Guangzhou’s Pearl River Water Resources Commission (PRWRC); Emergency Management Bureau; and Water Authority, following a duty visit on 23 January 2024.

Aside from touring the Emergency Command Centre of the city, the delegation was briefed on the Forecast-Forewarn-Rehearsal-Planning digital platform of PRWRC—enabling joint exchange of experience in flood control and emergency response, covering the adoption of digital twins. —Construction+ Online
