The 392.5-metre-tall China Resources Headquarters in Shenzhen Bay, developed by China Resources, is set to be the first-of-its-kind mixed use development in China.
With a total gross floor area of 860,000 square metres, the RMB20 billion project includes a sports centre, a science and technology centre, office towers, business centre, arts and cultural centre, the Andaz Hotel, the residences of Park View Manor, and the 80,000-square-metre MixC retail mall.
The high-end four-storey MixC retail complex anchors the massive development with its dynamic blend of local culture, open green spaces and a wide range of leisure and entertainment facilities.
WHERE ECO MEETS CONTEMPORARY
By integrating the retail space with the natural landscape and cultural references, MixC is visualised as a new urban lifestyle destination, where people can live, work and play.
Designed by Lead 8, MixC boasts a ‘land and floating islands’ architectural concept, borrowing inspiration from the symbolic coastal mangrove forest of Shenzhen to create a warm, inviting and lively environment.
The exterior beige marble façade (symbolising ‘land’) is interspersed with a collection of glass boxes for a vivid visual effect.
Using an integrated composition of retail-art technology, large abstract interactive media art walls and vibrant lighting effects transform the urban plaza into a backdrop of birds flying in the mangrove forest.
The interior of the retail complex is re-imagined as ‘floating islands’ within a space, with a mix of organic form floating islands and soft green landscape.
The glass boxes, interspersed between lifestyle shops, draw sunlight and greenery into the space and allow visitors to connect with nature, while minimising the level of heat gain and achieving a sustainable micro environment. Bridge links allow for connectivity with adjacent retail lots and seamless exploration of the development.
Capitalising on the sweeping views of the waterfront and landscape, part of the rooftop garden is envisaged as an urban farm to reconnect people with nature.
Scheduled for completion in 2018, MixC is poised as the contemporary lifestyle-oriented, eco-friendly retail precinct of the times.
