Leigh & Orange celebrates the opening of Morpheus hotel

Morpheus is Leigh & Orange’s (L&O) latest hotel project to open. Located in Macau, it is the new flagship hotel for the City of Dreams resort, which is owned and managed by Melco Resorts Entertainment.

The new hotel boasts over 770 rooms, 8 VIP villas , a sky pool 40-storey high and restaurants operated by acclaimed chef Alain Ducasse.

Housing this mix of facilities within one cohesive edifice, Morpheus is the world’s first high-rise building supported by a free-form exoskeleton steel structure, which is enlivened by two sky bridges, and protected from the elements by five different glazing systems and a unique non-repetitive double-curved aluminum cladding system. The complexity of the project and its enabling works required the involvement and coordination of eight firms of designers based in five countries.

As the executive architect, L&O was tasked to aid the realisation of this project through its technical knowledge and considerable experience of working in Macau. The scope of work included design and statutory coordination for this multi-disciplinary project, documentation of the hotel tower, international restaurants, retail outlets and retail street, as well as supporting Heart-of-House staff facilities—not to mention continuing support during the construction stage through to the opening.

Ivy Lee, managing director of L&O noted, “The most challenging aspect of the project was the orchestration of the many different designers, with differing visions all being weaved into a unique building form. We’d like to think of ourselves as the conductor, helping each designer to flourish in their own unique way while still uniting it all—without compromise—into a grand symphony. It was a privilege for us to be part of this amazing team, while creating a true landmark for Macau in the process.”

L&O has a long history of creating successful leisure destinations in Macau, including the City of Dreams Phase 1 integrated resort, City of Dreams retail upgrades and expansion, additional Gaming and additional F&B facilities, Studio City Phase 1 integrated resort and upgraded F&B outlets. — Construction+ Online
