The first Cooling as a Service (CaaS) project in Hong Kong will be launched by CLPe to install a new freshwater-cooled chiller system at Shui On Centre, a Grade A office building in Wan Chai, to provide an energy-efficient air-conditioning service.

The project includes the construction, operation and maintenance of three freshwater-cooled chillers, which will be controlled by an artificial intelligence (AI) management system at the building.

The AI system will draw on machine learning technology to collect and analyse data from the chillers to make real-time adjustments to enhance energy efficiency. The new chiller system will have a maximum capacity of 2,100 refrigeration tonnes and is expected to reduce electricity consumption by more than 30 per cent, compared with the existing seawater-cooled chiller plant, reducing 370 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

Construction of the CaaS project is anticipated to complete in the third quarter of 2023. —Construction+ Online
