Winners of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) Cross-Strait Architectural Design Symposium and Awards (CADSA) 2017 were announced on 17 June 2017 in Hong Kong.
CADSA 2017 was a collaboration between HKIA and Guangzhou Exploration & Design Association, Shenzhen Registered Architects Association, Taipei Architects Association and The Architects Association of Macau.
“The event aims to build up a platform for fostering communications among eminent architects in the region, and to recognise brilliant architectural work in the past decade that helped create superior environment with diversity initiatives and contributed to economic development,” said HKIA President Marvin Chen.
The award drew around 200 nominations from the Mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong, which competed in eight categories. The student category, themed Speed, Density, Diversity, drew nearly 100 nominations with out-of-the-box concepts.
Along with the awards, there was a symposium that brought together eminent and experienced architects from the cross-strait region, as well as Norway, France, Sweden, Denmark and the United States, as keynote speakers and panellists to share their insights.
According to the chairman of the symposium committee, Benny Chan Chak Bun, the dialogue centred around challenges and opportunities facing future architectural projects in the region, current situations and possible solutions, and the potential of diversified designs in accommodating the needs of different users in the community.
