Hong Kong, 20 April 2021 — The Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) Belt and Road Forum 2021 (HKIA B&R Forum 2021) took place at the CIC-Zero Carbon Park on 16-17 April 2021 was a resounding success. The event was funded by the Professional Services Advancement Support Scheme (PASS) from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
HKIA B&R Forum 2021 was hosted in hybrid mode with over 2,000 participants from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macau, and B&R countries/cities to the Forum through physical and virtual channels, to hear from regulators, senior government officials from the various B&R Initiative countries, architects as well as experts from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Bangladesh, Kenya, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, Sri-Lanka and Thailand. Under the theme, “Retrospect and Prospect of Belt and Road Construction Projects”, the distinguished speakers provided insights and experience sharing on B&R projects, and how Hong Kong’s registered practices, architects and related construction industries can leverage on opportunities arising from the B&R Initiative in particular the post-pandemic era.
HKIA invited Guest of Honour, The Honourable Mrs Carrie LAM, GBM, GBS, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to officiate the forum. Other officiating guests at the Opening include Ar Donald Choi, President, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects; Ar Xiu Long, President, Architectural Society of China; Ar Rita Soh, President, Architects Regional Council Asia and Mr Chan Ka Kui, SBS, JP, Chairman, Construction Industry Council.
“HKIA B&R Forum 2021 provides an important platform for the construction and architectural professionals from Hong Kong, Mainland China and B&R countries/cities, and encouraged architects to adapt to changes and play the roles of leaders and collaborators on B&R construction projects. HKIA aims to duly play its role of being a ‘super-connector’ and ‘facilitator’ to connect local and overseas architects,” addressed Ar Donald Choi, President of The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, on the occasion and expressed his gratitude towards the event’s success.
Ar Dicky LO, HKIA B&R Forum 2021 Taskforce Co-Chairman, delivered the closing remarks and expressed that HKIA B&R Forum 2021 provided a chance for architectural professionals to elevate the architectural and design standard of construction projects in B&R countries/cities. Professionals can deeply understand the strengths of Hong Kong act at the B&R Initiative in a multiple-perspective view, in which further promote Hong Kong architects in a higher level of the international architectural and design arena.
