The Construction Industry Council (CIC) constantly communicates with the Government on the difficulties during the fifth wave of pandemics to enhance the new Employment Support Scheme to cover the construction industry. Starting on 8 April 2022, main contractors, sub-contractors and construction companies in the Repair, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition area will benefit from the new round of the Employment Support Scheme.

Ir Thomas Ho On-Sing, Chairman of the CIC, said, “Many workers underwent quarantine due to infection or infection of family members during the fifth wave of the pandemic. There was a time when only 60,000 workers could work at sites across Hong Kong, and many found it difficult to make ends meet. The Government understands the challenges workers face and enhanced the support scheme to help workers in their hour of need.”

To support construction workers, CIC has recently allocated HKD123million to launch the “Construction Industry Caring Campaign 2.0” with the support of the Development Bureau to aid construction workers who were infected with COVID-19 or requested to undergo quarantine. CIC has also launched several Construction Industry COVID-19 Testing Days and implemented the “Vaccine Pass” arrangement on construction sites with the support of the Development Bureau. These efforts aimed to achieve the goal of ‘early identification, early isolation and early treatment of the infected’ and encourage more construction practitioners to get vaccinated. — Construction+ Online
