The Construction Industry Council (CIC) welcomes the 2020 Policy Address in which the Government will continue to invest in infrastructure with an estimated annual expenditure of over HKD100 billion in the next few years.
With 1,500 acres of land involved in total, the Policy Address will strive for an early commencement on the planning and engineering studies on the development potential of the reclaimed land at the ‘Lantau Tomorrow Vision’, Lung Kwu Tan and the coastal areas of Tuen Mun West. Putting in place a macro and forward-looking perspective in planning, the execution of ‘infrastructure’ in parallel with ‘land creation’ will increase employment opportunities, boost the economy, and improve people’s livelihood.
The CIC welcomes the initiative of the liberalisation of construction professional services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area). Allowing direct participation of local construction industry organisations and professionals will create the most favourable environment and opportunities for industry talents, and, thereby, deepen the technology exchanges in the Greater Bay Area.
The CIC has been proactively implementing the ‘Construction 2.0’ initiatives. The CIC sincerely hopes that “International Construction Leaders Summit”, chaired by the Chief Executive next year, can unite the industry to formulate strategies for the future.
Promoting the digitalisation of the construction industry is one of the CIC’s key missions, thus, the CIC launched the ‘CIC Construction Digitalisation Award 2021’ in November with aims to recognise outstanding local projects and organisations for their contributions in the adoption of digitalisation tools and workflows and in bringing about innovation in these areas to improve productivity, quality, sustainability and safety. — Construction+ Online
