Building and Hardware Fair Sees Strong International Participation

The 11th edition of Hong Kong International Building and Hardware Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), was held from 26 to 29 October 2016 at AsiaWorld-Expo. There were over 145 quality exhibitors from different parts of the world, including Australia, Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and the UK. Participating exhibitors who showcased a broad array of building and hardware products included renowned companies in the region, such as Fujian Pengxiang Industrial Company Limited, Home Building Company Limited and L. C. Industrial (Hong Kong) Ltd.

Special fair zones included BIM and building technology; Green building materials; kitchen, bath and building elements; building and decorative hardware; indoor decorative materials; coating and chemicals; and facility management, testing and trade service.

The fair was held concurrently with Eco Expo Asia and HKTDC Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo under the same roof at AsiaWorld-Expo, as well as the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Free shuttle buses travelled between the two venues, facilitating buyers to do multiple sourcing.

The event attracted altogether 13,128 trade buyers from 109 countries and regions. Amongst them, 7,434 were from Hong Kong and 5,694 were from overseas. Top three visiting countries and regions were the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and the USA, followed by Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Australia, Japan and Singapore.

A total of 59 buying missions were organised, bringing in over 2,000 corporate buyers from key players in the industry from 30 countries and regions. They included Al Rahmani General Trading LLC, Flora Marble and Crystal Building Materials from Dubai; Apnastock Solutions Pvt Ltd. And Trimurty Colonizers & Builders Pvt. Ltd from India; AZ Prime Pte Ltd from Singapore; Brain Works Co., Ltd from Japan; Capital Partners from Russia, Constructora Sanjose S.A. from Spain; Nicom Comércio de Materiais para Construções Ltda from Brazil; Nadayu Properties Berhad from Malaysia; and Novaland Investment Group Corporation from Vietnam.

On-site Events
Apart from being a sourcing platform, the fair also served as an information hub to provide the latest trends, industry knowledge and market intelligence to both exhibitors and buyers.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) Day was organised on the first day of the fair with a full-day programme comprising an Exhibitors’ Forum for BIM-related exhibitors and the high-profile BIM Management for Projects Conference 2016 organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling and Hong Kong Institute of Project Management.

Seminars and sharing sessions were also organised during the fair, targeting regional engineers, architects and other building practitioners. Topics included ‘Macau New Town Development: Latest Development, Opportunities & Hong Kong-Macau Co-operation’ and ‘The Latest Technological Development in Building & Construction Industry’.

In addition, three exhibitor forums, a networking luncheon and a networking reception were arranged to facilitate participants in exchanging ideas and views of the industry.
