BCI Asia IDA 2020 – Winners

BCI Asia Interior Design Awards (IDA) 2020 seeks to recognise exceptionally aesthetic and functional interior designs. This competition is not only an opportunity to showcase creative ideas but also to raise awareness of socially, economically, environmentally, and ethically responsible designs.

This competition is for projects that were completed between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2019, with seven categories: Offices, Retail, Residential, Institutions, Hotel, F&B and Recreational. Three competent judges were involved in the evaluation process, Tung Ching Yew from Singapore, Melisa Wong from New York and Mya Myitzu from Myanmar.

WINNER | RETAIL CATEGORY | SINGAPORE

DURASPORT JEWEL CHANGI
Ministry of Design Pte Ltd

Located in Jewel Changi Airport, the store’s façade is designed to appear dynamic, conveying highly-demanding sporting activities that the brand associates with. The X symbol is reflected at the entrance and echoed at the mullions. There are four designated experiential zones—for cyclists, skiers, climbers and triathletes—to allow customers to test products.

LIVING LAB
DP Architects

The new office brings together its two architectural studios that were previously separately located, to reflect the company’s vision to provide a holistic design and specialist consultancy service. The concept aims to maintain both flexible use of space and a clear identity that encompasses a multitude of specialisations.

GALLERY HOUSE AT 5 CARDIFF GROVE
CIAP Architects Pte Ltd; MJKY Architects

To accommodate both living and work spaces for an architect and an artist, Gallery House at 5 Cardiff Groove was designed with a human-centric approach. The house also embodies design attributes aligned with the national sustainability agendas—such as incorporating passive cooling and water management, as well as buildability and wellness.

PANGDEMONIUM THEATRE
ASOLIDPLAN 

Pangdemonium Theatre is an office and rehearsal space for actors working at the theatre company. The facility comprises a large rehearsal studio; a props store and workshop; a costume store and workshop; a main office; and spacious common areas for staff and actors. The design concept was to create a space that makes staff members and actors feel like they are at home, so that they can strengthen their bonds off-stage.

MIMOSA FILINVEST MALL
BENOY Ltd

Mimosa Filinvest Mall is located in a former foreign military base in north Manila, which was given back to the local government. The site is being developed into a new airport and a leisure centre, and the mall will be a significant retail attraction within the overall master plan.

SANYA PRIMUS HOTEL & APARTMENTS
CHIL Interior Design; B+H Architects

Situated in Yuelan Bay, Sanya, with a mountain backdrop, the Greenland Primus Resort & Apartment provides modern travelers a peaceful and relaxing retreat away from the hustle and bustle on Hainan Island. The interior design strikes a careful balance between nature and the modernity, inspired by the surrounding coastline topography and Hainan’s pearl history.

REVITALISATION OF THE FORMER FANGLING MAGISTRACY
Architecture Commons Ltd

Revitalization of FFM relies on human centric programming, in which we played a pivotal role to shape with HKFYG. Like all courthouses FFM has separate circulations for the public, the prisoners, and the legal staff. The intertwining staircases and corridors are reconfigured to accommodate a clear conservation interpretation path for the public that works in tandem with the educational programme of the Institute. Three of the four jail cells were converted to mixed reality and AR workshops, while the fourth one was kept with it original flavor.

Responding to the vision of the company, this office space was designed to steer away from the traditional office concept with designated desks and separated rooms. Instead, Buss-Allianz HQ tried to create an office with a café ambience or a co-working space. The design and layout encourage a collaborative and creative spirit between the workers. The materials and furniture scheme are chosen to create a casual, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere that can boost productivity.

SUDESTADA
GL STUDIO

Sudestada is a restaurant inspired by an Argentinian Street, serving savoury Latin American cuisine in the heart of Jakarta. Going to Sudestada is like coming into an original hip street, with a stretch of shophouses serving as a grill restaurant, a bar, and a café. Nostalgic and intimate vibes are the impression the design tries to create. The designer decorates the interior with Argentinian special items to recreate its local vibe, such as polo murals, ponchos, blue and white ribbons and a large photo of La Boca.

TOTO INDONESIA HQ
Field Four Design Office

TOTO Indonesia HQ’s design connects different cultures of Indonesia and Japan, capitalising different architectural tectonics and materials to create strong and flexible design concepts. The office is expected to represent the company’ s profile through the ambience of its interior, as well as a place where guests can learn and know better not only about the products but also the company itself.
