Iconic Malaysian resort, The Datai Langkawi, has announced it will have a soft opening on Monday, 10 September 2018. The Datai Langkawi has undergone an ambitious 12-month renovation that encompasses a complete overhaul of the interiors and exteriors following an investment of USD60 million.
The most substantial enhancement since the resort’s inception nearly 25 years ago, the project is being led by Didier Lefort of award-winning Paris-based design studio DL2A, who was responsible for the original interior designs back in 1993.
Whilst some minor works and finishing touches take place during the initial stages of the reopening, the renovation has seen a complete overhaul of the interiors of the guestrooms, suites, villas and public spaces, all designed with simplicity and Lefort’s style which is true to its origins. Local materials and inspiration from the environment, surroundings and culture are at the core of the vision, along with the signature ‘Datai DNA’, ensuring regular guests still feel very much at home when they return, whilst delighting new visitors alike.
Refreshed bedrooms and additions to the inventory will ensure the needs of the most demanding 21st century traveller are met. Three Rainforest Pool Villas have been added, located along the Datai River running through the 750 hectare rainforest, featuring an impressive deck and pool overlooking crystal clear waters. The new five-bedroom The Datai Estate spanning over 3,500 square metres will be one of the largest villas of its kind in Asia, comprising spacious living rooms, games rooms, two 20 metre connected pools, 24-hour butler service as well as a private chef.
The lobby and overall landscaping have undergone the most dramatic and notable change of all, whilst a brand-new dedicated The Nature Centre will be run by a team of naturalists and marine biologists led by Irshad Mobarak, the resort’s highly regarded resident naturalist.
The Datai Spa draws heavily on local traditions and includes a treatment list based on philosophies of the Malay concept known as ramuan or ‘potions’, made by infusing oils with hand-picked medicinal foliage from the herb garden and surrounding rainforest, performed by highly trained and skilled therapists. In addition to this, the philosophy of beauty through health is complemented by the international expertise of Bastien Gonzalez. Opening his first studio in Malaysia at the resort, he is renowned for his exceptional virtuosity and approach to hand and foot care. Other highlights at the spa include an exclusive scent and amenities produced with Langkawi rainforest elements, healing surrounding walkways incorporating the flora used in the treatments, as well as The Datai’s signature open air treatment villas for guests to connect with the sights and sounds of nature.
