Yang Kee Integrated Logistics Hub

Touted as the world’s first framed multistorey automated container depot in Singapore, the SGD150 million Yang Kee Integrated Logistics Hub is a joint partnership between Yang Kee Logistics—the facility manager and operator—and Logos SE Asia Pte Ltd, an investment and development logistics real estate specialist with operations in Australia, China, Indonesia and Singapore.

The facility will be constructed at the Tuas South Link 1 and will comprise 12 storeys of warehouse space, offices, canteen, rooftop parking, car parks, loading/ unloading bays and an automated container depot.

CREATING A DEPOT MANAGEMENT ECOSYSTEM IN SINGAPORE
Some of the key challenges in this sector are heavy congestion—whereby drivers have to queue long hours to collect and return empty containers at depots—driver shortages and land scarcity. The hub is designed with smart technologies and more efficient workflows to address these challenges and productivity issues by redefining depot operations.

One of its main innovations is the automated crane hoisting system, which is integrated into a first-of-itskind framed architectural structure. This is expected to increase Yang Kee’s operational efficiencies and minimise conventional manoeuvring space, which will in turn raise its overall competitiveness. With the new automated container depot, queuing time for the drivers will be negligible and the time spent on container surveying will reduce significantly.

“This new facility is an indication of our commitment in creating a future depot management ecosystem, where we expect the automated container depot to increase productivity by six times, prime mover driver’s productivity by two times and land intensification by more than 200 per cent,” said Ken Koh, Group CEO of Yang Kee Logistics.

Located close to the Lube Park and Tuas Mega Port, it is positioned to serve existing and potential customers from the shipping, industrial and oil and gas sectors upon completion.

“Yang Kee Integrated Logistics Hub will be the first private sector-led integrated logistics facility of its kind in Singapore and will be a game changer in the industry to lead productivity gains,” added Koh. “With a warehouse and automated container depot housed in close proximity, the supply chain effect will be more seamless, reducing turnaround time, especially for prime mover drivers.”

The ground-breaking ceremony was held on 31 March 2017 and the hub is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2018.
