Singapore strengthens its built environment in the face of climate change and other challenges

The Architecture & Building Services (ABS) 2019 series was officially launched at Marina Bay Sands Singapore Expo & Convention Centre on 1 October 2019. The event was opened by the guest of honour Zagy Mohamad, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development & Ministry of Manpower, and Deputy Government Whip. The ABS 2019 series was driven by ArchXpo 2019, along with five other international showcases, International Facility Management Expo (iFaME) 2019, LED & Light Asia 2019, Safety and Security Asia (SSA) 2019, Fire & Disaster Asia (FDA) 2019, and Work Safe Asia (WSA) 2019.

“ln Singapore, we have a high-quality built environment in which we live, work and play. FM is an integral part of this, by ensuring that our built environment is well maintain,” the minister said.

He added that by 2025, more than half of Singapore’s building will be 30 years or older and will require more maintenance.

“Along with the ever-growing stock of buildings, there will be increased demand for FM services in the years to come. Apart from building infrastructure, we need to upkeep our greenery and landscaping, lifts and escalators, as well as façade infrastructure.”

ABS 2019 is well timed to place the spotlight on the various industries that are directly connected to the built environment. It is also an important platform for the government to announce initiatives in response to Singapore’s dynamic and ever-changing landscape.

A total of 10,000 visitors, conference delegates and key players from various related industries including architects, builders, contractors, developers, engineers, facility managers, government agencies, housing developers, interior designers were expected to visit the show showcasing 250 exhibitors from 15 countries. ­ – Construction + Online
