Canton Paradise

Located at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) Singapore, the Canton Paradise restaurant is designed to create a luxury dining experience for high-end international tourists.

The design concept is a modern interpretation of the old era Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong, with extensive use of brass in the interior décor to take the advantage of the natural sunlight.

The restaurant has a full view of the Art Science Museum and downtown Singapore’s skyline through its full high glass windows.

One of the constraints that affected the design was the local Fire Safety Code that required two door openings at the relatively narrow frontage. This was overcome by having one of the storefront façade panels designed with the functions of an escape door, without compromising the aesthetics.

As MBS is a luxury destination, it took some convincing for the mall management to accept the travertine look-alike laminate on the wall in front of the show kitchen. The use of the laminate instead of heavy stones reduced material and construction costs. — Construction+ Online
