Redevelopment of former MAS HQ to be completed 2021

Following a 13-year delay, the redevelopment of the former Malaysian Airline System headquarters in Jalan Sultan Ismail is expected to be completed by 2021, The Edge reports.

Project owner Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) bought the 35-storey office building in 2006 for RM130 million.

Dubbed PNB Project 1194 after the site’s lot number, the RM1 billion project includes the upgrading and refurbishment of the existing office building and the construction of a new 50-storey hotel tower. Construction progress is currently at 45 per cent. The existing built-up of the office component is 679,994 square feet. The five-star luxury hotel is rated platinum by the Green Building Index and will have more than 450 rooms.

“Given the unique and complex nature of the redevelopment, the project requires careful planning and detailed enhancements as well as improvements to the infrastructure,” said PNB executive vice-president for property and real estate Rizal Rickman Ramli. “This includes strengthening work for the foundations and relocation of the main distribution substation, as well as changes to the layout pertaining to the floor construction and M&E installation.”

The building will also be linked to the PNB-owned Kenanga building across the road via an elevated walkway, which will be extended to the KLCC-Pavilion link bridge in Jalan Perak. This will improve pedestrian connectivity in the city centre. ― Construction+ Online
