The issue of fake Construction Personnel Registration Cards, or Green Card, for construction workers may hopefully be a thing of the past when the new Green Card takes effect in August 2019.
The new card incorporates enhanced security features to prevent cloning, allowing the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) better control over the card issuance.
CIDB chairman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali said the new card will include a virtual ID that can be accessed by the users, employers and CIDB enforcement officers to check on registration status.
Apart from identification, the card will also allow site supervisors or safety officers to record workers’ attendance via a QR code, as well as prepare attendance reports for site management purposes. Workers can also report site accidents via the communication platform or gain unlimited access to online training content via the training platform.
The card will also serve as an electronic payment card, which workers can use to send remittances, make payments via QR code and in-app purchases, reload, top-up and withdraw cash from Mastercard-compatible automated teller machines. The mobile wallet app will be available in the third quarter of 2019 at the Apple Store and Google Play Store.
More than 800,000 construction workers in Malaysia are expected to benefit from this initiative—a collaboration between CIDB and Bayo Pay (M) Sdn Bhd. — Construction+ Online
