The Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) today unveiled IMPACT, a testing and certification programme for Industrialised Building Systems (IBS). The IMPACT programme is based on the CIDB standard known as Construction Industry Standard (CIS) 24:2018 IBS Manufacturer & Product Assessment & Certification.
CIS 24:2018 marks a significant milestone in the nation’s effort to enhance the local IBS ecosystem. It will now serve as a standard reference point for the construction industry to ensure the quality of IBS products and components in a systematic manner.
The IMPACT programme is a holistic system that encompasses verification, validation, testing and certification of IBS products and components based on CIDB’s standards. With the implementation of this new system, the construction industry can be assured that IBS end-products are of high quality as they meet the specified requirements.
“The IMPACT programme’s systematic testing and auditing process gives industry players the assurance that the end product meets quality requirements, based on the certification given,” said Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Chairman of CIDB during the launch of IMPACT at the CIDB Convention Centre today.
The certification process will boost the public’s confidence in the quality of IBS products, while also increasing its commercial value, Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali added.
Increasing adoption of modern construction methods, particularly IBS, is a key component to boost construction productivity under the Construction Industry Transformation Program 2016-2020 (CITP). The IMPACT programme will ensure that the nation’s shift towards IBS will happen within a systematic, productive and consistent ecosystem.
The CITP, which is an important part of the 11th Malaysia Plan, is a roadmap that sets milestones with strategic outcomes in order to develop Malaysia’s construction sector into a world-class industry that is able to compete locally as well as internationally. In line with the nation’s High Income goal, CITP aims to achieve more than 2.5 times increase in industry productivity by year 2020 at RM62,000 per capita worker per year. This is from the baseline productivity of RM22,464 per capita worker per year in 2011.
IMPACT was launched at a ceremony on 17 January by Tuan Baru Bian, the Minister of Works. Present also was Dato’ Dr Syed Omar Sharifuddin bin Syed Ikhsan, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Works, and Dato’ Ir Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid, Chief Executive of CIDB Malaysia. — Construction+ Online
