The MRT Sungai Boloh-Serdang-Putrajaya, SSP Line, achieved a major milestone on 11 March 2020, with the breakthrough of the underpass tunnel below the Kuala Lumpur Seremban Expressway.
The construction of SSP Line is more than 70 per cent completed. The breakthrough marked the completion of excavation works for the second tunnel and served as a milestone in the construction of the Klang Valley MRT Project. The first tunnel breakthrough was achieved on 25 Feb 2020.
“We should be able to begin operations for Phase One of the SSP Line between Kwasa Damansara Station and Kampung Batu MRT Station by the middle of 2021, and the rest of the line by 2022,” said Datuk Amiruddin Ma’aris, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT CORP) SSP Line Project Director.
He added that the entire elevated guideway for Phase One operations was completed, while works for track-related installation programme are in process of completion. A total of 16 train sets were delivered to Sungai Buloh Depot for testing.
The project structure was changed from using a project delivery partner to turnkey model. The change was caused by a cost rationalisation exercise, which resulted in RM 8.82 billion worth of cost savings.
