Improving the Quality of Healthy Environments

Landscape architecture plays an important role in creating comfortable and healthy public spaces.

Limited space resources require creativity in maximising its usage and accessibility. Public space development as a shared space is one solution. How do we design comfortable and healthy public spaces for our increasingly dense cities?

Public spaces, especially in urban environments, are key for supporting the realisation of an ideal city—where people are able to interact with their environment. Public spaces also need to reflect on their aesthetic and functional architectural qualities, both in the context of buildings and their landscapes.

William H. Whyte, in “The Social Life of Small Urban Spaces”, states that there are several elements in the city’s public spaces that can illustrate the success of the spatial values, including:

Born in Ciamis, West Java, Dian graduated from the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), majoring in architecture, and completed his master’s degree at the same university through the landscape study programme. After working as an architect at the Urban Design Study Center at ITB and Azzakki, he served as Technical Director and Principal Director at PT Alami Media Kreasi for 11 years.

He also actively teaches in the landscape department at ITB and has spoken at various seminars and workshops. Currently, he is a former  regional chairman of IALI West Java chapter and he is a permanent member of IAI (Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia).
